TGB presents...the Mortal Instruments month!!

This is the month I’ve been waiting for, and I’d like to start it out with my favourite cat call…

JACE, TAKE IT ALL OFF!!!!!

Thats better!

Now that we have that out of the way lets get started! This May, we are celebrating The Mortal Instruments month.

So what is the Mortal Instruments, I hear you ask?

Well my friends, sit back with a glass of vino, check out all the pretty along the way, and I will tell you alllllllll about it!

Once upon a time, at a lake far, far away, the Angel Raziel mixed his blood in a cup and gave it to Jonathan Shadowhunter – the very first of the Nephilim – thus creating the Shadowhunters – a race of super humans sworn to protect the world from demons and keep the peace between the Downworlders.
Now I can hear you asking, “What on earth is a Downworlder?” Well, a Downworlder is a human/demon hybrid – vampires, lycanthropes (werewolves), Warlocks, and the Fae.

Our story starts with Clarissa Fray witnessing a murder – but not just any murder – it’s a murder that only she can see, committed by a group of young Shadowhunters.

It confuses her because she is the only one that can see them, and in return, it confuses them since they are Glamoured (hidden by magic) that a normal Mundane (an average, every-day human) shouldn’t be able to see them at all.

The next day, Jace offers to take Clary to meet his tutor at the Institute (an old cathedral hidden from humans by Glamour where the city’s Shadowhunters live), but before she can do so, she receives a distressing phone call from her mother. She returns home to find her mother missing, the apartment trashed, and a monstrous creature, a Ravenor demon, lying in wait for her.

With nowhere else to go, Clary returns with Jace to his home. There The Silent Brothers are summoned to find out why Clary can see through the shadow hunter glamour and why her home was attacked by the demon.

Brother Jeremiah discovers a block in Clary’s brain that prevents her from remembering something… the only thing he finds is the name Magnus Bane, the high warlock of Brooklyn.

After a visit to Magnus, Clary finally finds out that she is in fact a Shadowhunter. Her mother had a block put on her brain to make her forget that she has the Sight. Why you ask?? You know what… why don’t you read the book and find out!

So what is the big deal about these books? Well, there are a few things as far as I’m concerned, one of the biggest things to note is that their author – Cassandra Clare – was once a rather well known Harry Potter fanfic author on Fanfiction.net! That right ladies and gentlemen, The Draco Trilogy was a very well-known fic that arguably shot Cassie Clare to fame. She will tell you that you can’t find copies of it anywhere on the net, but… you just have to know where to look.

Personally, I love her characters; Clary is everything a female lead should be. She is strong, smart independent, and when things don’t go her way, she doesn’t curl up in a forest to die – no she keeps right on fighting for what she believes in.

Lily Collins as Clary.

Then there is Jace….*insert epic sigh here*

Jace is my dream man. He is cocky, arrogant, sarcastic, cynical, and while he is definitely a bad boy – deep down he is kind, chivalrous, a loyal friend, and a great fighter. Alex Pettyfer as Jace Wayland.

He is smart too – speaks several languages including Romanian “‘My Romanian is pretty much limited to useful phrases like 'Are these snakes poisonous?' and 'But you're much too young to be a police officer.’”* In the City of Glass, he was being sarcastic; he can speak Romanian fluently. Jace has also been described as having the “Angels own gift” though it hasn’t been made clear what that is.

The last character I’m going to mention (and believe me I could go on forever) is Magnus Bane. He is one of my all-time favorites because he is just so darn out there! Magnus is the high warlock of Brooklyn, and an immortal, having stayed at the age of 19 since the 13th century. He is at least partially Asian, very tall, thin, and has black hair that is usually spiked and glittery. He wears all kinds of make-up, such as glitter around his eyes and lipstick. He likes to flaunt his sexuality by wearing rainbow leather pants, sparkly belt buckles, and vibrant nail polish. Magnus also has cat eye pupils – one of the things that show him as a warlock – and part demon. He is sarcastic and has a rather short temper – especially where Jace is concerned – and he is pivotal in helping Clary to solve several issues throughout the series.

Adam Lambert as Magnus Bane

On April 5th the fourth book in the series was released. I am going to withhold my opinion and the details of the book – since it is still so new, but I do strongly suggest that if you haven’t read these books, you rush to your local book store and grab a copy of City of Bones (book one) or Pm me for the PDF. ;)

On that very happy note, I bid you farewell and enjoy the spam below!
Xx Officer Beibs.

Butterbeer and broomsticks.....

Well hello again my dears, Officer Panty Flashes here with a brand spanking new HP piece for you all. I know, you're all saying 'But Officer Panty Flashes! Harry Potter month is almost over!' I know, trust. It's been a long month.
Anywho.... Today I am beyond excited to give you a piece from one of my favorite people and my absolute favorite Harry Potter expert. I'm gonna be honest with you all, cause we are all friends here. I had not read a HP fic before this month. HOWEVER with much prompting from this guest columnist I finally did. And I. Am. Hooked. For real ya'll... After I read Isolation by the illustrious Bex-Chan, I immediately read her other Dramione stories and started going through all of her favorite stories on FF.net. I think I probably have about 8 HP fics under my belt now...and that is from someone who has not read the actual books yet! They are on my list, I promise!
Okay, now that I have babbled incessantly, I am pleased to give you, only slightly late, a fantastic perspective on why Harry Potter is so beloved. Ladies and gents, wizards and witches, I am now turning it over to the magical Miss Bex-Chan....

And thus, we finally enter the magical world of Harry Potter.

With seven books, eight films and many a humorous parody under its belt, it is no wonder that J.K Rowling’s series holds the number one spot for the most fics on our beloved ff.net, with over 500,000 stories posted.

Crazy, no?

So, let’s take a trip to Hogsmeade, treat ourselves to a Butterbeer in The Three Broomsticks, and have a little chat about the tale of the young wizard who captured the imagination and hearts of billions.

Just in case you’ve been living under a soundproof rock for over a decade, let me get you up to speed. Harry Potter finds out he is a wizard when he is eleven-years-old and is invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he meets Ron Weasley, a clumsy but loyal companion, and Hermione Granger, the brightest witch of their age. These three, dubbed ‘The Golden Trio’ by fans, embark on a series of adventures with their friends to try and defeat Voldemort and his sinister band of Death Eaters.

This is literally just the first page of Hogwarts; A History, my loves. To summarize Harry Potter into a few paragraphs is a bit like trying to coerce a herd of Hungarian Horntails into the Vanishing Cabinet; impossible and rather dangerous…

The books and films have everything you could wish for; romance, action, humour, mystery, fantasy and hundreds of wand innuendos to keep you on your toes! Add over 200 characters and an open-ended epilogue into that bubbling cauldron of genius, and you have all the ingredients for some beautiful fanfictions! (Snape would be so proud!)

Oh, and did I mention the mancandy? Feel free to indulge in a fangirl squeal over Daniel Radcliff, Tom Felton, Rupert Grint and Alan Rickman (don’t you dare argue with me!). And for the boys, Emma Watson, Bonnie Wright and Evanna Lynch have distracted quite a few Quidditch players over the years! Wipe that drool off your chin.

With the final film looming only a few months from now, I beg you, if you know a Harry Potter fan, offer them a shoulder to cry on. With fans of all ages and certain FFA members who are over twenty and still waiting for their Hogwarts letter (ehem…), I ask you to raise a glass of Firewhiskey to toast Rowling and the Boy-Who-Lived!

With a wide and colourful spectrum of possible ships, ranging from Dramione to Dumblegall, you are bound to find something that will beguile your broomstick! So, send the Forum an Owl for some fic recs or potter pics, and enjoy Harry Potter Month!

Thank you Bex for taking the time to put this together for us! You are truly fantastic babe! Alright babes, you know why you should read now grab a mug of Butterbeer, get a nice cozy blanket ( mine is black and green, thankyouverymuch) and head on over to FF.net to read one of the AMAZING stories from this much-loved fandom. Don't for get to review and tell them I sent you.
Pole dances,
Officer Panty Flashes

Why I blame Jared Padalecki For Everything, By Silver Spoon.

Why I Blame Jared Padalecki
For Everything
By Silverspoon aka Officer Buffy’s Stake

The FanficAholics Anon community is most definitely alive with the sound of awesomeness on a regular basis. As news begins to leak slowly to us officers of the truly amazing things our members are achieving outside of the fandom, we feel that it is perhaps time that these triumphs were both shared and celebrated among us all. This thinking brings us to our first interview of that nature, with one Pamela Campbell Love; devoted Supernatural fangirl, part-time fanfiction author, and organiser of what promises to be one of this years’ hottest charity auctions.

Just recently, something came to my attention on the wall of another Facebook group that I belong to, which is entitled ‘Supernatural Fanfiction’. SPN is a show that is high on my list of television paramours, and so as I trawled the wall of this group one evening (between maintaining my officerly duties at FFA, of course), a certain post by the aforementioned lady caught my eye. Pamela’s message involved a practical joke that she had organised in friendly ‘revenge’ against one Jared Padalecki, the ridiculously hot and gifted young actor behind the role of Sam Winchester. My interest was immediately peaked and, finding Pamela’s proposition amusing, I decided to lend a hand. All I had to do was pick a random statement, post it on Twitter, and follow it with the phrase #IBlameJaredPadaleckiForEverything. Mass pranking at it’s best, I am sure you will agree!

After roping several other of our members into doing likewise, (and blaming Jared for all number of entertaining things), I joined Pamela’s Facebook page of the same name. Soon, I became aware of the fact that Pamela had started to transform what began as an idle threat and then snowballed into an actual joke, into something that would benefit two very worthy causes. It was at that point that I decided to approach the admin and other officers of our wonderful community with the idea of interviewing Pamela for the blog. Thankfully they agreed, as did Pamela, and so without further adieu, ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce to you what promises to be one of the most entertaining interviews that any SPN fan is likely to read in their entire life.

1) Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview, I am ridiculously excited to read your answers, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I wrote the questions! Would you be able to tell us a little bit about yourself, including how you first discovered Supernatural and what attracted you to the show?

Thanks so much for asking!

Let's see, a little about me... well, I am a Pisces. My birthday is Feb. 24th. Feel free to send gifts. I am an utter and complete dork and the world's worst klutz. Seriously, I can trip while standing still. I am more of a tomboy than a girlie girl. Basically, think Dean with boobs. I am the mother of two amazing kids. My daughter Cailey is 14 and my boy Christopher is 11. I have been singing since I was about 3 1/2. I love reading everything!! And naturally I LOVE SUPERNATURAL!!

What first attracted me to the show was of course Jensen Ackles. I have adored him from afar for ages. But from the first time I saw it, I was drawn in. The storylines are amazing! The relationship between Sam and Dean is so complex yet so raw and simple. Plus, that car... Woo!!

2) From the small amount I know of you already, I see that you attend conventions. What was the first convention that you ever went to, and what were your experiences of it?

Actually, I have only been to one convention. I went to the LA Con this past February. I had such an amazing time. I met some truly exceptional people who will be friends of mine forever. It's a funny story really. I won the tickets on Twitter and went through hell to get there. But thanks to several people, namely Mandy Dillon and Matt Hickey, I made it. It was like a three day summer camp and I was so sad to leave!! I will say this, Trekkies got nothing on SPN fans.

3) Now that the more formal questions are out of the way, I am just going to dive right into the juicy ones that are surely on every readers’ lips! What are the cast of Supernatural really like in the flesh?! (Details on individual members’ butts is totally permitted at my discretion!)

Ahh! The cast are some of the most gracious and welcoming people. They aren't standoffish or conceited at all. They jump right into the middle of the lunacy with the fans. It's great!
Matt Cohen, Kat Boecher, Amy Gumenick, Steven Williams and of course Captain Cuddlepants himself (I gave him that nickname), Richard Speight Jr. made the karaoke party a night to remember.
Everytime I ran into Jim, he was so sweet. Always asking if I was having a good time. Mark gave me advice for my laryngitis. And Misha told me I smelled delicious after he sniffed my hair.
And Jared, well... I will get to him later. But Jensen, so much more dreamy in person. And both of them are sooooo funny! They truly are as close as Sam and Dean.
As far as butts go... everyone’s butts were glorious!!

4) The phrase ‘I Blame Jared Padalecki for Everything’ has fast become a regular one in my household. Please, please tell us how and why this prank first came about?!

Hahaha!! Aahh! Jared, Jared, Jared. That silly, silly boy. *shakes head and smiles fondly*
See, he made the foolish mistake of picking on me at the con. Not just once, but everytime I saw him. It started when I was trying to get pictures of Brian Buckley Band after the concert. I was standing there with my camera over my head, standing on my tiptoes trying to shoot over people's heads. Suddenly I hear a voice in my ear saying "It's not easy being little, is it?" Before I even realized who said it I turned and told the person to shut up. Well, imagine my chagrin when I realized it was Jared! Gen looked at me and said "Oh, he does that to me all the time." He was still laughing so I put my camera in his face and stuck my tongue out at him and snapped what turned out to be a pretty amazing picture.
But it didn't end there, during karaoke, he kept slamming his butt into me from behind the curtain and laughing. It started a bumping war. And finally at the J2 panel, he singled me out during the questions.
Anyway, I came home and vowed revenge. BeforeI knew it #IBlameJaredPadaleckiForEverything was born. It is all part of a year long multiphase prank.

5) What are some of your favourite #IBlameJared Tweets that you have read to date? And more importantly, what do YOU blame Jared for?

Some of my favorites? Oh geez, there are so many good ones!! Here are a couple...

Rachel Briggs -I blame Jared for the fact that I can no longer listen to Lady in Red without clenching my butt cheeks and looking over my shoulder.

Therese Rhundana- I blame Jared Padalecki for actually making me consider that there might be an invisible teenager in the showers at the gym.

Of course all the ones with some type of innuendo are the funniest. And as for me, well, I blame Jared for the fact that I have lost so much sleep putting this thing together. But also for the amazing people I have met through all of this.

6) You then decided to turn the joke into something that would profit two charities that I presume are close to your heart. Can you tell us about your chosen charities’ work, and why you selected them in particular?

A Dog's Life is a canine rescue program that rescues dogs and tries to get them placed with loving families. I am totally a dog person. Always have been. And when I found out that they were a charity that Jared and Gen supported, well, that made it even better. So many dogs are neglected and abused. It is heartbreaking really. They don't have a voice, so it's up to us to be that voice for them.

And we all know that Random Acts is Misha's charity. They do so much all over the world. From small acts to big ones like Hope For Haiti, the good that they do is unbelievable! I encourage everyone to please check out both of these charities and see what you can do to help them out.

7) How exactly will the auction run, and are you able to tease us just a little with what may be on offer to a generous SPN-obsessed bidder?

Ah! The big question!! Well, the auction will work like a silent one. Bidders will email me their bids and I will post hourly updates to show where everything stands. It will be exclusive to the members of the I Blame Jared Padalecki For Everything Facebook page. So make sure you are a member! It will run for seven days. Everything will have a starting reserve price of $50.00 USD. The official kickoff will be on the Season Six Finale night where we will be doing a live webcast.

There will be autographed photos from the SPN cast, autographed items from Jason Manns and Brian Buckley Band, Custom SPN shirts and jewelry, a special SPN prize pack and personal letter from the beautiful and gracious Traci Dinwiddie, and something truly one of a kind from Guy Bee. I don't want to reveal too much of what he is submitting, but I will say that it has to day with the upcoming "Frontierland" episode. I am adding new stuff everyday so make sure to watch the site for updates.

8) I am aware that you have been in contact with a number of the stars of the show through Twitter regarding your auction. Can you describe the overall response of the crew and/or cast you have approached to donate to the auction? How has their willingness to help made you feel?

Oh my Kripke! They have all been so very amazing in their willingness to get involved! They all have jumped on board without hesitation. I am so overwhelmed by their generosity. I even cried while I was discussing things with Sebastian Roche the other day. That is why I am so dedicated to the show and the cast. They are just some of the most truly exceptional individuals in the business.

9) And as I am sure everyone is wondering, to the best of your knowledge, is the man who inspired this fantastic idea aware yet of the wonderful things you are achieving and, if so, how do you think he may claim his revenge for the hysterical Twitter campaign?

Hahaha!! *roars with laughter* As far as I have been told, he is aware of it and thinks it's pretty funny. Although, truth be told, I am a little worried as to whether he will exact his revenge. Guess I will have to wait and see. I say Bring It On Padalecki, Bring It On!! Hahaha!

10) On a more personal note, and aside from your very worthy charitable work, you also write fanfiction. Describe yourself as a writer. Do you draw from any particular influences, which fandoms would you consider writing for in future, and what is your most current project?

I just started writing this past summer. It was a story called "Far From Home". It came from a dream that I had revolving around one key phrase between Bobby and the demon that had possessed his wife Karen. I found it was very cathartic for me. It forced me to draw on emotions that I had buried inside for many years from tragic experiences I had gone through. I think that is what I draw from. My personal experiences. I do find that when the boys kick up a party in my head, it is hars to sleep sometimes until I get it out. It can be quite nerve wracking. Haha!

As far as writing for other fandoms, I'm not opposed to it, it just hasn't happened yet.

I have several favorite stories and authors. Way too many to mention. But some that stand out are "Livin' On The Edge" by Dean's Sassy Seductress and "These Three" by Silverspoon and WelshWitch1011. And no, that is not because you are interviewing me, it is truly an amazing story!!! I am addicted to it!!

My current project is the sequel to "Far From Home" entitled "Comin' Home". It is almost complete and then I will start the final in the series, "Undone".

Now, we enter our ‘quick fire’ round, a selection of questions that Pamela was entirely unaware of until the moment she received them in her inbox! I would like to take this opportunity once again to thank Pamela for answering my questions, and to also urge any SPN fans who may be reading to back her auction all the way!

1) Favourite SPN character?

Other than Sam, Dean, Bobby and Cas? Probably Jo or Rufus. I miss them both terribly. Although Balthazar is up there too.

2) Favourite SPN episode?

Just one? Crap. Umm... Swan Song

3) Saddest SPN episode?

Heart. HANDS DOWN!!

4) Funniest SPN moment?

The Sword and the Stone scene from "Like A Virgin"

5) Best season villain?

Either Lucifer or Crowley

6) Your most watched episode to date?

Either "Heart" or "Dark Side of the Moon"

7) Female character you identify with most?

Jo Harvelle

8) Sam or Dean?

Dean. God, those lips.

9) Favourite romantic pairing?

Madison and Sam. Only because she was the first woman he let himself be vulnerable with after Jess.

10) Most recommended SPN fanfic read?

Oh come on!!! Umm... "Livin' On the Edge" and "These Three"

April Fandom of the month

This months fandom write up is by the lovely Mezz Meriseme!

Sit back and enjoy!! xx Tgb.

What do you think when you hear the name Harry Potter? Harry Potter is one of the best-selling books around the world. It has grossed more than $6.3 billion dollars and it isn’t even close to being over. With seven books, eight movies, and millions of fans, this creates a huge fanbase in many different networks, one of them being fanfiction.net. Harry Potter is the number one fandom on fanfiction.net when it comes to the selection of books with over five hundred thousand fic options. There are any numbers of pairings available when you have as many options in a fandom as Harry Potter does. There are canon stories, non-canon stories and even slash stories. You can pretty much pick your favorite characters and you are almost guaranteed to find a story with them in it. With such a large fan base, it is excitingly understandable that we would have at least some members on FFA who are beloved fans of the series. When we asked our members what their reasoning for loving the series was, these were their answers: Susan Cribbs wrote that she loved the Harry Potter series for the drama. “JK Rowling put so much underlying tension throughout all of the books and still made it an easy read. (Other than the HBP, that one took me forever!) I also love how she had the mindset to bring every little aspect of foreshadowing and prophecy together at the end. Not many authors have the talent to do that, so it's a real pleasure when everything works out. I love her characterization and how she humanizes even the most evil people. And the emotion she portrays just blows me away. I was honestly crying for the last couple chapters of Deathly Hallows.” Constant Comment Tea wrote that she loved the creativity. “[J.K. Rowling’s] sense of humor makes me cry from laughing so hard because she's so good at the little surprises that catch you off-guard. She created some truly awesome characters (McGonagall is one of my favorites), and she created something that people can unite over for decades to come. Harry Potter is the world I wanted to live in when I first started reading the books (just as the third book came out), and it gave me a blissful, hungry escape. All the time I spent lost in her world have not been wasted--not a second.” Katie Luvsonehundredmonkeys wrote, “I love the fact that the movies follow along so closely to the books. That’s one of my favorite things because it’s like this, you can read the books and then later watch the movies and be like ‘oh yea, I remember reading that!’ lol” Jay Nordmann said, “It would take too long to say every little thing that I love about the Harry Potter series, but I can say this: Rowling has created a universe of dramatic plotlines that draw you in and never let you go. The details that go through all of the seven books, it's well crafted and thought trough, and it amazes me that in the large span of years this series was created how Rowling never lost the initial feel for her characters or their meaning. Details written and loved in the early years of an awkward pre-teen developed into a mature young man who would sacrifice himself to save others; portraying a true Gryffindor who will shine of bravery through his fears. It brings up so many aspects of 'real life:' discrimination, war, the lives of young adults, hate, feelings of abandonment and rejection, and most of all the importance of love and the belief that it will conquer all threats. Bex-chan Fanfiction loves Harry Potter because “It has everything; action, angst, romance, tragedy, fantasy, originality, a moral...just everything. The imagination that went into the series just astounds me. To make it so familiar, yet incredible to the reader is simply genius.” Rae Marie loves the Harry Potter series for how J.K. Rowling wrote the series. “Seemingly insignificant details from the early books would become vital. She evolved her characters throughout the years. She didn't approach the wizarding world as an new creation, but as an established world. But the reader never really felt lost or bored because everything was explained in dialogue, not exposition. Her word is so realistic; I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there were wizards living among us.” Heather Bella wrote, “[J.K. Rowling] created a world you could believe in, and then she populated it with characters you want to believe in. There is something so beautiful about the honour shown by so many in the books. The desire to do right above all else that overcomes whatever their allegiances or character flaws. That is a huge part of what makes the characters work on the page; they are so very flawed, all of them, yet, these are the things that make them human and lead to their victory or downfall. The character arc of the three leads is so complete that you can't help but be totally emotionally invested in them. She makes them not only words on a page but the friends you wished you had.” Muriel Gaylee loves Harry Potter “Because he was such a real character. He had to grow into himself from the moment he found out he wasn’t just the abused/neglected nephew of the Dursleys. He didn't always get things right and he didn't always know the right places to look for guidance, but he LOVED those he connected with and sometimes that didn't always lead to the best decision making! I totally adored that so many who cared for his parents came to know and love and protect him too; Sirius, Remus, Albus, Minerva, the Weasley family, even the Longbottoms to a point. They all started out protecting "The boy who lived" but ended up caring for a nice kid who tried his best despite his circumstances. I like that JK didn't sugar-coat the realities of conflict and fighting for what is right over what is easy and even though he'd been neglected and treated poorly all his life, he still cared for Dudley at the end and took a moment to say Goodbye. Stephanie Lvtwilight Matyszczyk said that she fell in love with the books. “The way they were written, it was like I could imagine everything that happened in my mind, and then when the movies were made, to see how perfectly the movies matched with what I had imagined...it was perfect.” Erin Barker told us, “I think it is perfectly written. Like other books I read, I felt like I was experiencing everything that they were. It made me laugh, cry, and completely pulled me in, and I love it. It is just AWESOME!” Fanfic Reader gave us a list of her reasons for why she loves Harry Potter and ‘the boy who lived.’ Her reasons were: “1) The world JKR created - magical creatures, pictures that have characters move, things like polyjuice potion, etc. etc. 2) The intricate story line - how you go from one book to another and a later book references something that happened earlier and you go aha!! 3) Kick ass female characters. Hermione more than any character is the real 'hero' of the book so to speak; McGonagall; even Bellatrix and Umbridge are fierce female characters. 4) The tension/drama element. You were never sure how things would end until the very last moment. She killed some beloved characters and that, I think, is staying true to the story and her vision rather than what would sell. 5) The basic 'we are friends, we do anything for each other, no questions asked' angle. 6) Voldermot - he is evil in the purest form. He has no conscience, is completely unapologetic, straight up and in your face. 6) How it made me live and feel everything like that characters did. 7) And lastly, the style of writing. It didn’t falter or become dated or anything. There are many great opinions in FFA on why the members love and adore the series, as there should be with so many people interested in a series. Not everyone loves the same things and that helps keep things interesting. There are many similar opinions here, but also many different ones. Imagine if we had gotten into asking what people what the best (and their favorite) pairings were ;) I can only imagine the debate that would spark. Whether you are a fan of Harry Potter, only somewhat interested in it, or not a fan at all, you can still appreciate the following the series has created. J.K. Rowling has done an amazing job writing her books and creating a world where people can go to escape. There are no limits to what the magical world can hold and I think that is one reason why so many people love Harry Potter. I watched the movies before I read the books and admittedly, I have yet to read much HP fanfiction, but I am slowly working my way there. I fell in love with the movies first and then when I didn’t totally understand what was going on, decided to pick up the books. I had never been a big reader, but the Harry Potter books excited me and I felt were a fairly easy read. They were exciting, adventurous and different from what I was used to reading. I hope that everyone will give this series a chance because it very much deserves it.
Happy Harry Potter month! Mezz.

Harry Potter fics that Rock!!

April is Harry Potter month (incase you have been living under a rock and missed that fact) And our very own Constant Comment Tea has some amazing recs for you all to check out. If you have never read a Harry Potter fic, right here is a great place to start!

Dumbledore’s Army and the Year of Darkness by Thanfiction A Harry Potter fan fiction legend (seriously—if you haven’t heard of it, there are legions of DADYverse fans and fan fiction on this fan fiction), Dumbledore’s Army and the Year of Darkness is a must-read for every Harry Potter fan, regardless of normal shipping/ficcing preferences.

Following Neville and the rest of the remaining DA students through their 7th year at Hogwarts, this epic story is written with the same humor, plot twists, and emotional pull-strings as JKR herself. Thanfiction created a fan fiction masterpiece, not only in how well he managed to tie in actual Deathly Hallows events (painting a whole new view of the Hogwarts Battle at the end), but in the simple fact that it’s actually longer than the real 7th book, and I still read the whole thing. From moments that made my stomach hurt with laughter to moments that made my cheeks wet with tears, I was completely lost in this almost-canon world where we get to watch Neville (and other DA members) become the bamf he truly is.

2. The Mark of War by potterfreak “A cold Halloween night, a silver dagger, masked men like phantoms in the dark, a scream for mercy and the Dark Mark dripping blood. Was it only a dream, Harry?” –Summary for The Mark of War Written by an author who is currently pursuing original novel-writing (or was when she last updated her bio), this piece is exquisite. Dark, romantic, and scary, it follows a very non-Mary-Sue original character as a new teacher through Harry’s fifth year at Hogwarts. It was written in 2003 before OotP came out, and I read it at about that time; so while I can’t remember the details, I do remember how it made me cry and how in awe I was of the beautiful writing and the author’s ability to make me completely fall in love with this new character. The Mark of War gets kind of heavy—there’s a torture scene somewhere in there—but in the best possible way. It’s not your typical fan fiction, folks.

3. Prongs Rides Again by BrieflyDel I read this one a very long time ago, but I remember it and still recommend it because it is the only long Marauders-centric fic that I really enjoyed. I’m usually very picky about the kind of stories I read, and being as I usually breeze by Marauders fics, I have no idea how I chose to read this one, but I am so glad I did. It’s fantastically-written: if this person isn’t a well-known published author, they should be. It is a masterful story that takes the entire Harry Potter series to an entirely new world, but in a way that could easily have been canon. The creativity in how the author brings her plot to believable fruition is astounding and so much fun to read. Actually, I think I’m going to go read it again.

Get the wine ready and get comfortable....

Hey ya'll!!!! Officer Panty Flashes here again! Looks like all of the pimping and requests for HP reviews for this month is starting to pay off... I am beyond excited to give you all a lovely fic review courtsey of out very own Jay Nordmann. I received a delightful e-mail from Miss Jay a few days ago asking if she could possibly write up a review of a specific fic for the blog.... Well, yeah honey, go ahead!
When I found out which fic she wanted to review I got a little fan-girly for sure. At the time I had not read any of her work, mostly cause I am a Twi-girl, but as soon as I finished reading Jay's request I got my scantily clad behind over to FF.net and began to read... I was a happy girl, let me tell you. Now, cause we are all friends I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Come closer. Closer. Even closer. Aw hell, just sit on my lap. Okay, you ready? I have never read a HP fic all the way through. Not even Finding Himself. I know! I have not read the books either. Yeah, I KNOW!!!! Bad Pups and all that.
Anyway, so this fic was AMAZING and kind of blew me away. It's beautiful, emotional and funny as hell (but maybe that is just me, I can be a bit twisted) . The author is a fantastic FFA member, a skype buddy, a lover of wine, a music connoisseur and a frequent changer of hair. Ladies, gents and others, without further ado I am pleased to give you A beautiful , written by Jay Nordmann of.....

Isolation by Bex-Chan

People often said that in times of turbulence, you learned to appreciate the little things. Poetic and whimsical notions like sunsets, the sounds of birds and the varying colours of dainty flowers.
Well, Hermione could safely tell those people that it was all bollocks.
-.-
Presenting, our very own Bex-chan, who’s written a story that falls perfectly with this month’s fandom Harry Potter, and also Twilight and Dragon Ball Z. She’s a very talented young writer and this is why I’ve decided to review her second Harry Potter story; Isolation.
Official summary: He can't leave the room. Her room. And it's all the Order's fault. Confined to a small space with only the Mudblood for company, something's going to give. Maybe his sanity. Maybe not. "There," she spat. "Now your Blood's filthy too!" DM/HG. PostHBP.
-.-
This is a Alternative Universe story, taking place in the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter series, where The Weasley wedding was never interrupted, and Harry and Ron went on to look for the Horcruxes without Hermione. Hogwarts is casts with sadness and unease as the war continues silently, and the Ministry of Magic is still fighting against Voldemort, and the school is still a place of safety for the few pupils who have returned to study.
Enter our favorite Slytherin Draco Malfoy. After five months of hiding with Snape from the Dark Lord who wants to kill him, Snape is grasping at straws to keep the boy safe, and leaves him in the hands of McGonagall. But she, as well as the other remaining Professors at Hogwarts, is far too busy to keep the boy hidden from the other students, and he’s placed in the care of Hermione Granger.
Mione is Head Girl, and therefore has her own quarters in the Gryffindor tower, and enough space to harbor the fugitive. Both are reluctant to agree on the simplest of things, and both stubborn to even let the other finish each other’s sentences, as they continuously talk over each other and scream at the top of their lungs. But as isolation takes its toll on Draco, something happens, and the fights are no longer about difference between mudblood and pureblood, but about human equality and loyalty.
A twisted relationship develops, and I can’t even begin to describe their depth without boring you for the two hours. They’re complicated, but you’re able to understand their every thought, as Bex presents each character in impeccable and well written chapters.
-.-
He collapsed into the couch, closing his eyes tight and cradling his face with sweaty palms, as the chill coiled around him. He had no idea if he was shaking from the cold, or from the painful pangs that made his chest feel close to rupturing, and he felt completely lost. Despite his perpetual insistences that Granger and this place had driven his mind to ruin, he realised now that her presence actually soothed the turbulent thoughts rattling around his skull. Her twenty days of silence had been torture; his solitude leading to more doubts about blood and what he wanted from Granger.
-.-
For me, this story is captivating in so many ways, but most of all I find it absolutely exhilarating to read because I have not read the books in English, and yet Bex manages to introduce every character so easily and well described that I never falter to know who’s who and what’s going on. Alternating between writing (in a third person spectra) Hermione and Draco’s thoughts separate, she lets us in on a journey of self discovery and gaining respect for people who are not like yourself.
It's a well known fact that Draco despises 'mudbloods' like Hermione, but introducing muggle books, the works of Shakespeare and the autobiography on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., she's able to draw lines between the magical and the normal world, trying to tear down Draco's walls and his narrow minded view of personal worth.
What I also love about this story is that while the two teenagers are trapped in their own little world, she never forgets about the war surrounding them, and draws in pain and danger from outside the Castle walls in the form of death and tears. Also, she never changes them, albeit they change their views of each other as the story progresses, Draco never stops being an ass and Mione never stops trying to make him open his eyes. Both are so sweet when they have their little moments, and both so attuned to each other when the situation calls for it.
Still working as a WIP, I don't want to give away too much about this mind blowing story that leads us through intense white fury, clenching hearts, broadening minds, tearful eyes, and that last kiss that always has me sobbing as I re-read it.
I started reading this story just this Friday, and finished it late Saturday, because when I first started reading (and reviewing every single chapter) I just couldn't stop. It's addictive, and you always want to stick in there to find out who wins the next fight, and what revelations they come to in the end.
On a final note, I just have to add that I love that Bex is British, and writes like one! Sod off this, shag that – it’s adorable these little quirks that I’m not accustomed to!
With that, I hope you all click on the link on top here, and head over to read this story, 'cause whether you despise Draco or not, you will fall in love with him. I did. And now I never want to let him go; all thanks to the marvelous writing of FFA's very own Bex-chan.
I love you girl!

Okay babes, let's leave some love here for Miss Jay Nordmann's AMAZING review and over on FF.net for the amazing Miss Bex-chan. Go ahead, I'll wait here.
